Respectful Relationships.

Can we work together to make everyone in our class more resilient?

In 2019, School Kit were commissioned to create a Year 0-3 kit focussed on fostering relationships in the classroom. The key areas of focus were listed as:

  • Students experiencing an environment where children, young people and adults engage respectfully with each other;

  • Schools are supported to develop positive cultures where diversity is valued and celebrated;

  • Students experience an environment of and are committed to promoting positive behaviour;

  • Students demonstrate empathy and they develop skills that enhance positive relationships. Students use these skills and understanding to take critical action to promote personal, interpersonal, and societal wellbeing.

The kit that ensued, Respectful Relationships, supported the classroom teacher and their students to develop interpersonal relationships and cross classroom empathy through a series of open ended learning experiences. Based around a collective classroom battery, students aim to fully “charge” their battery through improved self awareness and a series of deliberately kind acts.

School Kit was commissioned to run a reprint of this kit for 1,250 classrooms in 2022. With the lasting impacts of Covid lockdowns playing out in classrooms country wide, the rerun was very timely.

“More understanding around the effort needed to establish and maintain friendships and positive relationships. Children can see how positive relationships can enrich their lives and the culture of the classroom. Excitement about the battery charging'“
