Bomb Gone! Nuclear Free Pacific

Steering our own course

In 2022, a new Aotearoa New Zealand Histories curriculum was implemented in schools across the country, bringing the teaching of New Zealand history to the forefront of the humanities space. Through partnership with the Torpedo Bay Navy Museum and our access to naval archives we were able to offer a unique insight into a naval storyline and perspective. Using the Bomb Gone! kit students examined the storyline in the context of New Zealand history. Bomb Gone! is a relevant and robust resource, rich with primary sources, the Bomb Gone! kit provides an invaluable springboard for developing skills such as critical thinking, contextualising and researching.

The Bomb Gone! kit significantly raised awareness of the Navy and the Navy Museum on a national level, as well as providing a rich addition to the existing Navy Museum education programmes.

Teacher Feedback.

Understanding protest

“This School Kit helped my students to have an understanding for my Year 9 and 10s of Nuclear Testing and protest in the Pacific, and the importance of the NZ navy.”

Engaging and informative

“There was great 'buy-in' from all my students and the resources to support the teaching were fantastic. The wall display was great and the students enjoyed investigating the resources both online and hard copy. Overall a great kit, very informative and engaging!”
